POSTCARD: "The Lusitania" (Postmarked 1907)
On September 7, 1907, Nurse boarded the Cunard Liner RMS Lusitania for her maiden voyage from Liverpool to New York City. Arriving in the U.S. a week later, he sent this postcard to his wife Daisy, telling her, "Dearest, Already progress! (Congressman John J.) Fitzgerald has vowed to support the movement." Tragically, in 1915 the Lusitania was torpedoed by a German submarine and sank in just 18 minutes, killing 1,198 passengers.
